Earth Day is every day here at South Coast Botanic Garden, but it’s nationally recognized this year on Monday, April 22. Our 87 acres provide more than just a fun place to reconnect with nature, they also provide habitat and food for our local wildlife.  Take some time this weekend to appreciate the planet we share by planning a visit to the Garden. Here are 5 ways to spend Earth Day within our 87 acres throughout the weekend.

  1. Make a planet-friendly bracelet: Join us Saturday, April 20 for our Make Your Own Friendship Bracelet class and make a bracelet for you and your best friends using up-cycled beads. These beads were handmade by volunteers using paper that would other wise been tossed into a landfill. This class is for childern 10 +. For more information, click here.

  2. Awaken your senses and connect with nature: Join us Sunday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to noon for our Mega Meditation Class: Awaken Your Senses – Inspired by Bloom! Using state-of-the-art wireless headphones, you will be guided on a journey to explore the profound importance of listening to nature through our senses and become attuned to the whispers and soft nudges of our intuition. 3. Donate and have your name added to our Wall of Wings: SOAR- Tropical Butterflies is coming back for another year and it’s all thanks to the contributions made through our Flourish Fund. Help us maintain our butterflies and provide a memorable experience for future ecologists and entomologists by donating today. For every gift of $50 or more, you’ll be able to add a butterfly to our Wall of Wings! For more information, click here.

  4. Watch our Pollination Garden buzz to life: The all-new plantings in the Pollination Garden (which are also part of our Bloom! exhibit) are growing and our local pollinators are loving it. Spend some time under one of our umbrellas and you’ll quickly see some bees and butterflies fly over to their favorite flower for a quick bite to eat. The Pollination Garden is a great example of how we can work with our environment to create a space that is both beautiful and earth friendly.

  5. Go bird watching: Birds can be seen throughout our 87 acres from the moment you drive up the driveway to the farthest parts of the Garden. From hummingbirds to hawks and even tropical yellow chevron parakeets, we are lucky to have so many bird species call our 87 acres their home.
