After a sold-out series last year, our Sunset Series is heading back! Guests can roam our 87 acres or hang out at Dottie’s, our new food and beverage concessions station near the Living Wall, where they can sip on a cocktail or grab a bite to eat while enjoying the Garden’s natural beauty, yard games and music. The young at heart will be entertained in our Kids’ Zone by the fun and energetic Ms. Allison – think parachutes, obstacle courses, lawn bowling, bubbles and more! While we provide the fun, parents still provide the supervision.* And, of course, the cherry on top is each week’s musical performance (see line up below). The musicians will do two 45-minute sets.
NEW FOR 2023: Want an exclusive experience? Buy a VIP ticket and get premium seating area (still bring a blanket or lawn chair), access to the VIP bar, one free non-alcoholic Butterfly Palmer per ticketholder, unlimited access to SOAR – Tropical Butterflies throughout the night and early entry into the Garden (5 p.m. rather than 5:30 p.m.).
This is truly an event for all, and we invite you to come and make the night yours!
*Parents are asked to chaperone their child at all times. Children under 3 must be accompanied inside the play area at all times. Also please note, no outside food and beverage will be allowed during our Sunset Series.

This is our only after-hours event this summer. Pick and choose from the activities below to truly make the night yours! Whether it’s a date night, girl’s night out, a family outing or work happy hour, there’s something for everyone!
Experience Live Music
Location: Upper Meadow
Times: 6 to 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 to 8:00 p.m.
Every Thursday night features a unique, lively performance on our Upper Meadow. From bluegrass to hip-hop, a Bridgerton night by the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band and a ’80s and ’90s night, there’s a taste of everything throughout the series. Don’t believe us? The full lineup is out now.
Play in the Kids’ Zone
Location: Lower Meadow
Times: 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
You may remember the uber fun and energetic Ms. Allison from our popular Movin’ and Groovin’ class a few years ago… and now she’s back! Join Ms. Allison in the Kids’ Zone for some serious fun – think parachutes, lawn bowling, obstacle courses, bubbles and more. The Kids’ Zone is located in the Lower Meadow. For everyone’s safety, parents are asked to chaperone their child at all times. Children under 3 must be accompanied inside the play area at all times.
Grab a Bite at Dottie’s
Location: Near the Living Wall and Dorothy and Allen Lay Staghorn Fern Collection
Times: 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Dottie’s is our new concessions station offering food and beverage, including kids meals! While the food is delicious, the environment of Dottie’s is not to be overlooked. After undergoing an upgrade last year, this is now one of the most lush, beautiful areas to sit back and enjoy the Garden. However, please note that the tables located in this area are for those purchasing food and drink from Dottie’s.

Explore the Garden’s 87 Acres, Including Washed Ashore

As we mentioned, Sunset Series is your only opportunity to explore the Garden after-hours, and trust us, you don’t want to miss it. Seeing the Garden as the sun begins to set is truly a magical experience, and during Sunset Series, our entire 87 acres are open for you to explore! That means truly experiencing the Garden in a whole new way; not just from the lighting but to the wildlife, ambient noises and night-blooming plants. Plus, you can see the 16 sculptures that make up our Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea exhibit!
Have Upclose and Personal Time with the Butterflies
Location: SOAR – Tropical Butterflies
Times: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Note: SOAR is only available for VIP ticket holders
Have you always wanted to spend a little quality time with the butterflies in our SOAR – Tropical Butterflies exhibit? Well, a Sunset Series VIP ticket gets you UNLIMITED access to the pavilion throughout the night. That means, you can spend as much time as you’d like with our fluttering friends. And since the sun will be setting, they’ll be a little less active so you’ll really get to be up close and personal with them.

The only tickets available at the 5 p.m. timeslot are VIP tickets. If purhcasing a non-VIP ticket, please select the 5:30 p.m. timeslot for the date you’d like to come. Please remember to sign in to get your Member discount.
