The six young stars of our latest exhibit, Thomas Dambo’s Trolls: Save the Humans, are on a mission to save us humans by reconnecting us with nature.  This week’s Troll of the Week is a bit introverted, but we are excited to introduce you to Sofus Lotus, the Listening Troll.

One of Sofus Lotus’ favorite things to do is lie down with his ear pressed against the ground and listen to the rhythm of the Earth. By being quiet and listening carefully he can hear all the crackle, thud and buzz happening right beneath the ground. In fact, he was the first Troll to notice that the rhythm of the Earth had changed. So when the other Trolls were deciding how they could help the humans reconnect with nature, Sofus said, “If we’re going to save the humans, we should teach them to listen because only a human who listens will hear when Nature talks.” Continue reading below for fun facts about our Listening Troll before visiting him in person.

Fun Facts:

  • Sofus Lotus is 7 feet, 6 inches tall and 24 feet long
  • When you find Sofus at the Garden, you will see him with his ear to the ground listening to the Earth below
  • Sofus will never tell you what the Earth is saying because he believes everyone should listen for themselves

If you’re inspired by Sofus Lotus and interested in connecting with nature through listening, take our Mega Meditation Class, Whispers of Nature on October 22 from 10-11 a.m. Using state-of-the-art wireless headphones, Gina Hemmings of Mindrop will lead you through your subconscious mind and help you reconnect with yourself and nature.
