If you’ve visited the Garden over the last month you may have noticed our new friends from Thomas Dambo’s TROLLS: Save the Humans. This exhibit follows six young Trolls as they travel the world reconnecting us humans to nature. To help the Trolls spread their message to more humans, and to share each Trolls’ personality, we started the Troll of the Week series. This week we are highlighting Basse Buller, the Painting Troll.

Basse Buller is considered the wild child of the group, painting the birdhouse symbol on every surface he can find. Normally, Basse is all over the place, excitedly expressing himself through symbols and shapes but calms down when he begins painting or drawing. He makes his marks with rocks, sticks, leaves, mud, and anything else he can collect. Rebellious and curious, Basse respects boundaries but will continue to push his message with signs and words. He is loud and funny and will do whatever he can to get the Trolls’ message to more humans. When you find Basse Buller, he is sitting next to a giant bucket of rocks with the birdhouse symbol placed in front of him.

Fun Facts:

  • As the Painting Troll, Basse was the Troll who painted the birdhouse symbol on the flag after Ibbi Pip suggested it.
  • Basse is 12 feet tall while sitting, can you imagine how tall he is when he’s standing?!
  • Basse is a creative and free spirit who finds peace while painting and drawing.
  • During his visit, Thomas Dambo shared that he based Basse Buller after himself!
