We are officially announcing our upcoming butterfly exhibit, SOAR – Tropical Butterflies at South Coast Botanic Garden! Opening April 1 and running though July 31, the experience includes an immersive butterfly pavilion, an emergence chamber featuring caterpillars and pupae, and new garden plantings that include our geometric flower beds (which currently feature our tulip superbloom), pollinators and other butterfly-attracting flowers. While the outdoor experience is free for all visitors, the butterfly pavilion will require a separate timed ticket to enter.
“We are always looking to bring new and exciting exhibits for our visitors to enjoy, and this is just our latest project on a long list we are currently working on,” teases Adrienne Nakashima, Chief Executive Officer. “It’s been a challenging year for all of us, and it’s been a year of change. So, butterflies seemed like the perfect fit! Visitors will be able to see these beautiful insects in all stages of the life cycle and watch them transform. It will be an meaningful and educational experience for all.”
If you’re not currently a Member, you may want to consider becoming one soon. We are not only providing Members with discounted tickets and a Member Presale from March 1-13 so they can have the first chance to reserve their preferred date and time, we are blocking the first four days of the exhibit for Members only. That means from April 1-4, Members will have the first look inside our new exhibition space. The experience will open to the general public on April 5, with tickets to the general public going on sale after the Member Presale on March 14, which happens to be National Butterfly Day! Plus, if you’re a non-member family of five, tickets to SOAR will cost you around $80. OR you can purchase a Basic Plus Membership and get FREE admission to the Garden YEAR-ROUND, plus butterfly pavilion tickets for only $10 more. That’s a steal.
If you visit the Garden now through April 1, you will notice construction in the area of the Dahlia Garden where the pavilion is being built. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please know that we are building our cocoon, and once finished it will be a beautiful butterfly-filled experience.
