2020 was a big year for South Coast Botanic Garden. Not only did it mark our 60th anniversary, but it put up dozens of obstacles that helped us grow stronger as we worked to overcome them. Now we are looking forward to the next 60 years. We have a lot planned for the Garden in both the long and short term. Here are the top things we’re looking forward to at the Garden in 2021, at least so far.

  1. Butterfly Exhibit: We teased it quite a bit toward the end of last year, but one of the most exciting things we are looking forward to in 2021 is our new butterfly exhibit launching this spring. Construction on the pavilion will break ground any day now and we will have more details to share very soon!
  2. Superbloom: Also happening this spring is a superbloom! Our team is planting thousands of bulbs in various areas of the Garden that will create a fantastic show of color with an interesting variety of blooms. It’s going to be a must-see!
  3. Volunteers Returning to the Garden: We had to halt our volunteer program at the start of the pandemic to restructure it and figure out how to have volunteers work safely in the Garden. While we were able to bring volunteers back for GLOW, we’re now preparing to bring back our ongoing SCBG Volunteer program early this year. Though the initial roll out will be limited, we hope to have the program back in full by the end of the year.
  4. Dog-Walking Hours: Yes, we’re planning on welcoming dogs back into the Garden in 2021! Actually, we hope to welcome them back SOON, so stay tuned for more information about our specific dog-walking hours that will allow visitors to bring their four-legged friends into the Garden for a fun stroll.
  5. Ms. Allison’s Movin’ and Groovin’ Minicamp: We know many parents can’t wait for this fun, safe, physically distanced kids camp to return to the Garden so kids can wiggle and jiggle out all of their pent-up energy! The good news is the wait won’t be that long. We anticipate the minicamp returning this spring.
  6. Updated Website: Sometimes it’s the little things. Our website will be getting revamped this year! From a new ticket purchasing system happening early in the year to an overall website update, our goal is to improve user experience on our website to make it a seamless experience for our Garden visitors and members.

The Garden has remained open to serve the community by being a place to encourage wellness and health through nature and open space. Please help keep us open by considering a gift to the Garden. You can do so here.
