Ikebana Floral Arranging is a popular class at South Coast Botanic Garden. In fact, its 6-week course earlier this year sold out, and the second session that was set to begin last month also sold out. While we had to cancel that session due to LA County’s Safer at Home mandate, instructor Yumiko Kikkawa, of the Ohara School of Ikebana, has provided a video tutorial that helps walk you through a variety of Ikebana floral arrangements. Yumiko uses plants from her garden, but you can also get some flowers delivered from your local nursery.

Ikebana is the ancient Japanese art of floral arranging. Some supplies that are normally recommended for this class include:

  • 10-inch small shallow container
  • Scissors
  • Bucket
  • Towel
  • Pen
  • 3 x 4 inch Kenzan
