The Dorothy and John Bohannon Rose Garden is one of the most cherished collections here at the Garden. If you visited this past spring or summer, you likely marveled at the Garden’s abundant blooms and were captivated by its enchanting fragrance. Perhaps it even inspired you to start your own rose garden! If so, you’re in for a treat — our Director of Living Collections, Terry Huang, has created an audio blog packed with essential rose gardening tips.

In this audio blog, Terry walks you through everything you need to know, from selecting the ideal spot for your roses and evaluating soil quality, to choosing the best times of year for planting. He also shares a detailed schedule for planting, pruning, deadheading and fertilizing tailored to our unique Southern California climate. While these insights are invaluable, the best way to master rose care is hands-on. And there’s no better place to do that than right here at the Garden! Our volunteers gain year-round experience by working alongside our expert Horticulture Team. Interested in joining us? You can learn more about our Volunteer Program here and start your journey with us today.
