For Information Seekers

Doris Sung was born just up the 110 Freeway in Hollywood in 1964. She is a Korean American architect and educator who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Princeton University and earned a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University. As of this writing, she serves as the Director of Undergraduate Programs at the USC School of Architecture. Sung is also the founder of the DOSU Studio Architecture, which seeks to create ways that buildings can be more sensitive to the changing environment. One way it is doing this is by developing smart materials, such as thermobimetals, to self-ventilate, sun-shade, self-structure and self-assembly in response to changing temperatures. This is one of the materials used to create Fuller, so visitors can sit patiently and watch the structure adapt as the climate changes.
