The South Coast Botanic Garden Foundation (SCBGF), a non-profit organization that exists to support South Coast Botanic Garden (SCBG), seeks an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to support its Educational Programming and Events.

POSITION TITLE: Education Coordinator

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:Reports to Director of Education

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Foundation seeks a talented and driven individual to join us in our mission to serve the community by providing a unique horticultural and wildlife habitat experience and to represent a model of excellence for land reclamation and sustainability. This position is an excellent way to be an integral part of a growing nonprofit organization and serve on the front-line of delivering mission content to our visitors and members through the creation and execution of thoughtful and provocative programming.
The Education Coordinator should be an experienced self-starter with the ability to manage the implementation, coordination, administration and logistics for a budding suite of education, membership and public programs. Strong organizational and planning skills, exceptional attention to detail, high aptitude for customer service, strong team player, and understanding of strategic goal alignment are critical. He/she should be able to make decisions under pressure, work creatively with limited resources, solve problems, anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision. He/she should be exceptionally creative, with the ability to take mission-related subjects like: gardening, wildlife, fossils, mining, sustainability and nature, and make them fun, accessible and engaging for the general public and experts alike.
Specifically, the Education Coordinator will execute the planning, organizing and implementation of a robust suite of membership events and public program offerings that are on-mission, on-brand, and of highest quality. The Coordinator shall facilitate the school visits program including program management, outreach to schools, and daily coordination of field trips. The Coordinator will manage the successful implementation and administration of classes and programs, ensuring ease of registration with the goal of excellent customer service and maximum revenue in mind. Additionally, the Coordinator will execute outcome evaluations for all programs, facilitate the timely production of marketing materials, and be able to handle multiple projects at once.
The candidate should understand and is comfortable with attaining revenue and attendance goals in alignment with institutional goals and budgets, have a passion for non-profit management and garden-related content, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, develop an understanding of the company, and be able to build relationships with internal and external constituents. The candidate should have a high competency in working positively with other departments, staff members, the Board of Trustees, volunteers, contractors, Members and guests.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Some experience in the coordination educational or like programs.
• At least 2-4 years of experience with office administration.
• Respect for diversity and cultures.
• Proficient use of the latest versions of MS Office suite, email, web, social media, and a high level of comfort with technology and the ability to learn new software.
• Strong writing and verbal skills.
• Understanding of legal contract language.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
 Understand department goals and budgets, monitor progress toward goals, and make timely reports on progress.
 Develop a planning calendar related to all classes, events and programs that will provide ample lead time to generate sponsors, for marketing, and execution.
 Coordinate, plan and execute all programs including post-program evaluation.
 Foster positive relationships with Foundation team members, Trustees, Volunteers and County employees
 Secure event rentals, vendors, additional parking and/or shuttles if needed.
 Meet revenue goals associated with class registration
 Coordinate ticket and reservations set up with Guest Services to maximize early registrations and sales
 Determine and procure supplies needed and purchase or secure donations prior to the event.
 Secure and coordinate volunteers and/or donations if needed.
 Manage Docent Program and training of contractors, volunteers and staff who participate in leading activities
 Coordinate and oversee, setup, event, and breakdown. Perform as needed.
 Collect and maintain paperwork, managed both hard copy and electronic files.
 Maintain database of instructors, participants, and constituents related to program.
Position is full-time. Must be available weekdays, some weekday evenings, some holidays, and many weekends. Pay rate DOE.
