Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the early springtime blooms are adding a perfect touch of romance to the Garden. Pair our beautiful backdrop with one or more of the activities listed below for a lovely date to do solo, with friends, or with your significant other!  

    1. Amp It Up with a Bespoke Picnic 
      Available upon booking
      Have an intimate picnic immersed in the beauty of the Garden. Our Special Events team helps design incredible weddings and events throughout the year, and now you can have them set up a gorgeous picnic for a romantic date or a galantine’s celebration with your friends.     2. Astra Lumina
      6  – 10 p.m. Tuesday, February 14 and Thursday – Sunday
      Set off across mysterious grounds to discover a celestial pathway of lustrous light, cosmic visions, and astral song. You and your date can immerse yourselves in illuminating encounters of lighting, projection and sound, and connect with the stars before they return to the sky above. To learn more, click here

    3. See World-Class Art with Hide and Seek: Art Meets Nature
      Explore our 87 acres to seek out the eight sculptures hidden in the Garden. Six of these sculptures come to us from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and have been carefully curated in the Garden to encourage nature exploration with an artful game of hide and seek. This nature walk will add a whole new level of appreciation for the Garden’s botanical collections. To learn more, click here

    4. Join Our Lunar New Year Celebration
      We are bringing back our Lunar New Year Celebration for a second year, with some new twists that will make it even bigger! Our winter blooms and green foliage are a picture-perfect backdrop to usher in the Year of the Dragon, complete with red lanterns and festive activities on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of February.     5. Take a Class
      Class times vary
      Taking a class is a great way to have fun and connect with your partner or your friends as you all learn or experience something new together. These classes are also great to take on your own and a great opportunity to deepen your love for nature and the Garden. Listed below are the classes available throughout February. 

      • Blooms and Beauty: Flower Crown Making Class
        2 – 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 11
        Join us for a hands-on workshop where we will create exquisite flower crowns using fresh plant material. Set amidst the colorful surroundings of the Garden, this class offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature while learning the art of flower crown making. Guided by skilled instructors, you will learn the techniques of selecting, preparing, and arranging fresh materials to craft your own stunning flower crown. As you weave together petals, leaves, and delicate blooms, you will discover the therapeutic qualities of working with nature’s vibrant palette and engage in conversations about the significance of flowers in various cultures and the symbolism associated with different blooms.         Prune and Prosper: Mastering Seasonal Plant Trimming
        10 – 11 a.m. Friday, February 9
        In with the new, out with the old! The new year is an excellent time to start preparing your garden for spring, so what better time to learn how to give your garden a new ‘do? This isn’t just for looks, but to help your plants live their best lives. If you are not sure where to start, this class is for you. From herbaceous perennials to woody plants, we will cover general terminology, pruning techniques, and timing, so that you will be ready to take on almost any plant. More info.

        The Way of Tea: Ceremony Demonstration and Tea Service
        11 a.m. – Noon Saturday, February 10
        Join us in our beautiful Dorothy and John Bohannon Rose Garden as we partner with the Urasenke Tankokai Los Angeles Association to bring you an authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony experience. Guests will observe a traditional tea ceremony, hosted and narrated by experts from the Urasenke Association, and will then enjoy a modified tea service, complete with a cup of tea and some sweet treats.
