This brand-new exhibit features eight monumental bird sculptures made from bamboo, each with a unique personality and story to tell. But Bamboozled is far more than an art exhibit, it transforms the Garden’s 87 acres into a whimsical, interactive journey. Guests will follow the clatter of bamboo wind chimes as they search for each sculpture, which are tucked throughout the Garden’s stunning landscape.

About The Myth Makers: The Myth Makers is a collaborative duo of Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein, known for their striking site-specific environmental sculptures. Together they create large-scale, site-specific sculptures using bamboo and reclaimed materials. Inspired by nature and rooted in traditional techniques learned in Taiwan, their sustainable, temporary works have appeared in 18 U.S. states and abroad. Dodson is drawn to the mystery of birds; Moerlein to nature’s dramatic, visual stories.

The Sculptures
Meet all eight of these larger-than-life birds, each with a unique personality and story to tell. From the daring Traveller to the mischievous Pranksters, these feathered marvels are here to challenge, delight and surprise you at every turn. It takes about 50 bamboo poles and 400 bamboo splits to create just one sculpture, all held together with approximately 5,000 wire ties. In total, the entire exhibit uses 500 poles and 4,000 splits—a true bamboo bonanza! Many of the sculptures have been made to be interacted with—sit inside the Great Horned Owl, run through the Scrub Jay and enjoy the beauty of the White Peahen.

Enjoy a refreshing beverage as you tap into your artistic side, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Garden. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just looking for a fun, hands-on experience, this workshop offers a perfect blend of creativity, nature and serenity.
