Rose Society Pruning Demo

Frances Young Hall

Facebook Event: Here

This demonstration begins promptly at noon. Experienced members will guide attendees through the big three questions: How should I prune my roses, When should I prune, and Why should I prune my roses? SCRS Rosarians will demonstrate “How to prune roses” on various types of potted roses such as Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, Climbers, and Miniatures. Other members will discuss “pruning theory” which addresses “When to prune” both modern and antique roses, and “Why we prune roses.” Our panel of experts will also cover proper heights to prune for our climate zone and debunk ‘cultural myths’ about pruning roses back to a few feet above the ground. The demonstration will also cover tips on personal safety, proper tools and gear, fertilization, and pest management.

SCRS will offer a small selection of roses, tools, and gear for sale along with our own brand of “Rose Cocktail Mix.” This cocktail mix will ‘jump start’ roses and insure that they have the proper nutrients for a bumper crop of blooms in 2014! We also invite attendees to our rose clinic; bring your potted roses and or pieces of diseased roses in zip-lock baggies that you are concerned about and our rose doctors will diagnose the patient’s problems.
