Cactus Fly
Scientific Name:
Copestylum mexicana
The largest of the flower fly family (Syrphidae) may be found in association with cactus. The large maggots feed on the rottiing and liquified interior of decaying cactus pads. The adults feed on nectar of many species of plants. Photo by Laurel Woodley
