Big Red Skimmer
Scientific Name:
Libellula saturata
This dragonfly prefers to rest on some vegetation near the water and dart out to catch the prey on the wing. The immature stage is a nymph that lives in quiet water feeding on aquatic insects, pollywogs and small fish on the bottom. Photos by Laurel Woodley
