The ‘rules’ of gardening are changing fast, forcing many gardeners back to the basics. It is the perfect time to start your gardening journey or to brush up on the gardening breakthroughs in recent years. Certified UC Master Gardener, Liza Go, will take beginners and seasoned gardeners alike through a comprehensive four-part series to give you the greenest thumb possible with hands-on demonstrations in the Garden. Registration required. Online registration is recommended.
- 24 – Philosophy of Gardening: Join Liza Go and garden friends as we cover where gardens came from and how gardens were designed to fit many different purposes. Students will walk the Garden to learn more about the historical inspiration behind different styles of gardens and the design elements that help them flourish.
- 31 – SoCal Gardening: Southern California is not a desert, nor is it ideal for historically British designs. Join us as we explore the diverse climates of SoCal and which gardens can thrive with little maintenance and benefit the ecology of your neighborhood. Students will learn to take soil samples and develop a garden design landscaping plan.
Prep Activity: Garden Design Plan and Soil Sample
- 14 – IMBY: In My Backyard: Soil is the foundation of any garden. Join us as we learn to analyze the soil in your own backyard to determine a sustainable design and comprehensive maintenance plan. Students will analyze their own soil and get up-close and personal with the microbes that matter.
- 21 – Sustainable Garden Maintenance: Gardening doesn’t have to be a chore if a garden is designed purposefully and thoughtfully. Join us as we take a look at how to maintain your oasis with minimal effort and maximum enjoyment. Students will learn gardening ‘hacks’ and how to identify and treat popular pest problems that can plague your garden.
