  • Garden Walk - Summer Solstice

    Location:
    gardengrounds

Walk open to Foundation Member's only.  Members may bring a guest.  Walks limited to 25.  Please call the Foundatin office (310) 544-1948 to pre-register.

‘sol’ + ‘stice’ derives from a combination of Latin words meaning ‘sun’ + ‘to stand still’.  As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.  Although the actual summer solstice will be June 21 the days are still relatively long.  ‘Midsummer’ is a period of time centered upon the summer solstice and refers to celebrations that take place between June 21 and June 24.  Join us for an after hours walk celebrating the beauty of the garden in the magical midsummer light.

Trees are an important component of the natural landscape, preventing erosion, and providing a weather-sheltered ecosystem in and under their foliage.

They also play an important role in producing oxygen and reducing carbon dioxide, as well as moderating temperatures.  During the heat of summer you can take refuge under the canopy of leaves as they gently rustle in the wind.

Join us as we explore the many varieties of trees in the garden like Ficus, Palm, Conifer, Gingko, Acacia, Eucalyptus, Pine, Redwood and many more.
