Participants can learn how to grow an edible garden and actually work in a garden plot. This year-round program features formal classes/lectures, work days, and much more. In addition to these more formal classes, there are ongoing “work” days that include hands-on instruction in topics such as plant selection, soil preparation, fertilizing, natural pest control, irrigation, general garden maintenance, and harvesting/deadheading.Class is limited to six participants. Winter Gardening: Monday, January 7, 9 a.m. Planning the Spring Vegetable Garden: Monday January 28, 9 a.m. Starting Your Seeds for the Spring Edible Garden: Monday, February 11, 9 a.m. (All classes meet at Columbia Park Community Garden Presentation Area, weather permitting. Teri's desire is to bring to as many as possible the joy and satisfaction of creating their own objects of art in beautiful color. She instructs students in proper stroke technique to create beautiful, functional items for the home and garden, as well as gifts and items to sell at local fairs and boutiques. This four-week course will provide you with all the information you need to grow a spring edible garden including fruits, vegetables, and herbs. We will discuss plant selection, plant schedules, planting from seed and starter plants, basic soil preparation, water, sun and climate requirements, harvesting, and gardening resources. We will also discuss various approaches to edible gardening including raised beds, container gardening, and in ground directly. Organic gardening practices will be encouraged.

When we have the opportunity to take yoga out of the studio and into a natural setting, we can experience the true beauty in the practice. In these eight weeks, feel the peace and energy of the garden become one with you. The pace and difficulty of this class is appropriate for most individuals. Each class will begin with joint opening, progress to deeper stretches and flows, and ultimately be guided into meditation. Please bring a mat and dress for the outside. In the event of rain, we will still have class, but we may need to move it inside. **Drop-ins are allowed and are $12 per class for members and $15 per class for non-members. Please register in the Gift Shop.

Sat, 2/2 1:00pm - 1:45pm Docent guided Tram Tour. Tour lasts about 45 minutes and travels the Tram Road which is about a one-mile loop around the garden. Various points of interest are discussed. You will not disembark the tram. Current Tram Tour schedule is only at 1:00pm on Saturdays. Please call the admission window at (310) 544-6815 to ensure that the tram is running as scheduled. Cost is $4 per person, payable at the admission window, on a first come, first served basis. Admission window accepts cash only for entrance and tram tour. |
