Peg Moline: Former Editor and Chief of Natural Health Magazine and author of The Doctor’s Book of Natural Health Remedies (Galvanized Press/Random House).

You are the most important part of your health care system; gone are the days when you saw your M.D., filled a prescription and crossed your fingers. Now you have more choices than ever. And more than ever, what many of us are choosing are natural remedies. Why? Because they work, are less invasive than many conventional treatments, can be used long term and often improve your general health as well as treating your illness. And while many prescription drugs cause side effects such as diarrhea, depression and anxiety, sexual dysfunction, even hallucinations, alternative treatments are often much more gentle and cause fewer side effects. In fact, the American medical system itself is becoming the leading cause of death in the United States: Each year more than 700,000 people die from medical mistakes – many in hospitals – including drug reactions, bedsores, unnecessary procedures and just plain errors. Join author, Peg Moline, and find out why millions are turning to alternative and complementary forms of healing, which ones work best for which conditions and how to find a practitioner. Plus, learn how to use five common garden herbs to heal what ails you. Books will be available and there will be an herbal tea demo.

Alexandra Hofmeister-Daly, author of Pavo, Finding New, will entertain us with a reading and book signing. This is an adorable children’s book about Pavo, a young peacock, who lives with his family and is trying to figure out how to keep his grandfather from growing old. This would be a great time to bring in children or grandchildren for an opportunity to meet the author.
